A college student (Scarlett Johanson) goes to work as a nanny for a rich New York family. Ensconced in their home, she has to juggle their dysfunction, her studies, a new romance, and the spoiled brat in her charge.
First of all, if you've read the book, the movie is surprisingly accurate to the plot of the book. The characters are portrayed on film exactly as I pictured them while reading, with only a few obvious scenes missing and the end tweaked a little. Also, this is a total chic flick, in case the title didn't tip ya off. :0)
Even if you haven't read the book this is as really good movie. The critics don't agree, but they don't matter, only I do. [lol]
The whole story revolves around a family (father, mother, and one six year old son Greyer who's a monster at first but is absolutely adorable) who are rich, popular and in a whole lot of internal turmoil.
The parents of this poor kid are so ridiculously cliche it almost hurts to watch them play out their disgusting relationship, but at the same time, they are entirely believable.
The nanny (Johanson) is funny, beautiful and smart, if a little too innocent in the beginning. She is a college graduate who is trying to find herself when Mrs.X finds her instead.
I gave this a four out of five stars and highly recommend it.
