There are a several ways to make images transparent. These tutorials have been written using PSP Photo X2 (and should be easily adapted for earlier versions from PSP 8 upwards. Some of the commands/tools may be in different locations).
Tut No. 2 - using color
1. Either make this image from scratch, or make your own text image (any size, any color, any font, any text whatever suits you). Make sure that your text is colored and that your background is also colored, but that a color is choosen that does not appear in your text. So this is my text image.
2. Now save the image as a GIF (yes I know it isn't animated, but for this to work, it has to be saved as GIF) and accept the default message if one appears.
3. Now close down the image.
4. Reopen the image and click on the
Dropper Tool
and right click on the images background. This will set the color palette to match the background color of your image - so in my example to orange.
5. Click on
Image > Palette > Set Palette Transparency
6. You will see this pop up menu appear. Click on the middle section, click on proof to see if the transparency looks right, if it does click on OK.
If you click on proof you will see something like this.
Finally, to keep the clarity/quality (not to mention text color) of the image, save as a PNG.
6.
File > Export > PNG Optimizer
7. A screen will open with the
Colors tab showing. Make sure that
16.7 million colors is checked, if not do so now.
8. Now click on the
Transparency tab and choose the settings as shown here and then click
OK
You will then see a screen that looks like this
Choose where you want the image to be saved and give it a file name and make sure it is set on
PNG for the file type and then hit save.
Here is my finished image.
I did my multicolored text by using a PSP gradient. If you click on the colors palette you will have three tabs, one for color, one for gradient and one for textures.
