PSP: GLOWING TEXT

Paint Shop Pro Image Tutorials | Submited Mar 5, 2008

This Glowing Text tutorial has been written using PSP Photo X2 - but should easily be adapted for earlier versions from PSP 6 upwards (some of the tools/commands may be in different places).
Glowing Text

There are any number of ways to do glowing text, this is may way.

[Note: your text settings should be set to FLOATING.
User Picture..
This will allow the text to have the moving ants (lines) surrounding it, which means you can add all kinds of effects to your text.

1. Open up a new image, any size, any background color and type your text, again any color. Example
User Picture..

2. Next take a copy of your text. Using the keyboard Ctrl-C or Edit > Copy

3. Next - Selections > Modify > Feather
User Picture..

4. You will get this pop up menu
User Picture..

5. Alter the number of pixels to your desired glow setting. The lower the number, the smaller the glow / the higher the number, the larger the glow. So I've set mine to 18.

6. Your image should now look something like this.
User Picture..

7. Click on the flood fill User Picture.. tool and set your material color palette User Picture.. to the desired glow color - i've gone for bright pink.

8. Now simply keep right clicking until you think you have enough color to make great glow. I've right clicked 12 times and come up with this.
User Picture..

9. Earlier I asked you to take a copy of your text - now we need to paste it as a new selection into the glow. Using keyboard Ctrl-E or Edit > Paste As New Selection Your image should now look like this.
User Picture..

If you are happy with the image as it is - defloat the text Ctrl-D and SAVE

10. However, if like me you are not so happy with the grey text with a pink glow now that you have seen it, then while the text is still active (with the moving lines) using the flood fill tool fill the text with a new color. Here is my new image.

11. To add extra depth to the text, why not add a drop shadow Effects > 3D Effect > Drop Shadow
User Picture..

12. You will get this pop up menu - just choose your desired settings and click OK
User Picture..

13. Defloat the text Ctrl-D and SAVE

Here is my finished glow text.

Remember, the lower the feather setting in point 5, the smaller the glow. I've done a fairly large glow to make the tut easier to see.

how can u make the text bigger?

When you have the text box up, look at the text tools, you just increase/decrease the size of the text in the same way you would if using Word.

The text tool bar looks like this and is usually found at the top of the screen ....
