Paint Shop Pro Image Tutorials | Submited Mar 5, 2008

This tutorial has been written using PSP Photo X2 - but can be used for most earlier versions of PSP (from version 6 and upwards) and Animation Shop 3. [I do not know how to use any other animation programme].
Neon Text & Flasing Neon Text
We are going to make this image.
1. Open a new image with black as your background.
2. Now add the text - WHITE works best for this tutorial and then deselect the text by
Ctrl-D Image should look like this.
3a. Now go
Adjust > Blur > Blur
3b. Now go
Adjust > Blur > Blur More
Image should look like this
4. Now go
Effects > Artistic Effects > Solarize
5. You will get this pop up menu - make sure you choose a threshold of 128 - a shown here and then click
OK
6. Finally all you have to do is add some color. Using the keyboard go
Shift-U or
Adjust > Color > Red/Green/Blue
Now play around with the settings until you find a color you like. For this tutorial I have used these settings.
and this is my final image.
*************************
Why not make a flashing neon sign. I made a fresh image with a different color Neon sign.
Follow the above tutorial, and then ...
7. Take a duplicate copy of your layer by
Layers > Duplicate Layers now look like this.
8. On the top layer change the color by either using the keyboard
Shift-L or
Adjust > Hue and Saturation > Colorize
9. You will get this pop up menu and mess around with the Hue & Saturation settings until you have a color you like. I went with these settings.
10.
SAVE your image. The file extension you use depends on the version of PSP you are using, so ....
for people using PSP8 you must save the file using this extension (I think this extension works for PSP 9 too).
for people using Photo X2 (and I think versions 10 and 11 too) you must save the file using this extension
*************
11. Open up Animation Shop and open up the image you have just saved.
12. To view the animation click on the animation icon

found at the top of the workspace screen.
13. If you like the animation SAVE using the wizard if you want. Remembering to save as a
GIF file extension, otherwise the animation will not work.
14. If you do not like the speed and want to change it, using the keyboard Ctrl-A / Alt-Enter - this screen will come up

change the display time and click ok. View the animation again and if okay - SAVE.
Here is my finished animated name tag.
