This tutorial has been written using PSP Photo X2 - but can be used for most earlier versions of PSP (from version 6 and upwards) and Animation Shop 3.
Making Transparent Glitter Fills
Two tips for making transparent glittler fills. (i) Because images are so small, always zoom in so you can see what you are doing and (ii) when making the fills, use a black color first, it makes it easier to see what you are doing. When the fill is completed, then the image can be converted (negative) to switch from black to white.
TILE 01
1. First open up a brand new
TRANSPARENT image sized around 100 x 35 pixels.
2. Click on the Brush

tool and choose these settings
3. Set the
Foreground on the Material Color Palette to
BLACK
4a. On the new transparent image
LEFT click the mouse. You should now see a small black square.
4b. Repeat three more times so that you form a small square like pattern with the centre missing.
5. Repeat steps 4a - 4b until you have randomly placed a number of these squares around your image. (Do not over fill).
6. Again repeat steps 4a - 4b but this time make the pattern slightly larger and again randomly placing this shape around your image.
7. Now change the color by using the negative tool -
Image > Negative Image
Your image should now look like this (I've deliberately coloured the background so that you can see the white shapes - this is
NOT part of the tut).
8a. We are now going to SAVE using the Gif optimizer.
File > Export > Gif Optimizer
8b. You will get this this pop up menu - you must choose these settings and click
OK
8c. Then you will get this menu - simply give your file a name - say
TILE 01 and click
OK
9. & 10. Now you need to open up a further 2 new
TRANSPARENT images and repeat all the above steps. But make sure you put the shapes in different locations, this is so that the animation will work. Here are the 2 that I have done :-
TILE 02
Before negatizing :
After negatizing (I have deliberately colored the background so that you can see the white shapes this is
NOT part of the tut):
TILE 03
Before negatizing:
After negatizing (I have deliberately colored the background so that you can see the white shapes this is
NOT part of the tut):
You can now close down all 3 tiles.

Now that you have prepared your three tiles, we now need to open up
Animation Shop to animate them.
11. Click on the Wizard Icon
12. Now follow the Wizard (screen shots with settings below) through to the end.
Holding down the
Ctrl key now add the three TILE files that you have just saved and then click
Open
In all probability, you will need to rearrange the tiles to that they are in the correct order. Just highlight the image that needs to be moved and then click on the
move up or
move down buttons.
13. Click on the
View Animation
Icon
If you are happy with the animation,
SAVE using the wizard.
If you do not like the speed and want to change it, using the keyboard Ctrl-A / Alt-Enter - this screen will come up

change the display time and click ok. View the animation again and if okay - SAVE.
Here is my finished glitter fill
This is what it looks like in colored backgrounds.
and when used in an image.

Why not experiment with different style of shapes when making your glitter tiles, you can be as adventurous as you like.
