Colourizing sections of images. This tutorial was written using PSP Photo X2 (but can be used for most earlier versions too).
Open up your image and take a copy > Ctrl C. Then you can minimise or close down your original image.

2. Using the Freehand Selection Tool draw around the outside of the image User Picture... I have used these settings : User Picture..

Your image should like something like this:

3. Invert selection > using the keyboard > Ctrl Shift I or the long way round User Picture..

4. Apply Colorize Filter - using keyboard > Shift L or the long way round User Picture..

Settings I have used are User Picture..

5. Deselect the moving lines - using keyboard > Ctrl D.

And here is my final image.

You do not need to keep to the same hue and saturation settings that I have
used, try experimenting and see what you come up with.

lets say want to colorsized more that one thing int he image how would i do that

Do you want the same color? If so then once you have finished drawing around the first part that you want to color, hold down hold down the shift key (it is important that you do this otherwise you will lose the first image that you drew around), go the the next part of the picture you want to add color to and again using the "Freehand Selection Tool" draw around that image, and then colorize.

Here is a very rough picture image. I want the wings and part of the leaf to be, say purple, so holding down the shift key I draw around the wings and part of my leaf ... my image looks like this

User Picture..

Colorize as shown above, and this is what I end up with ...
User Picture..

If you want to add more than one color, then once you have finished drawing around all your sections to be colored, add a new layer (Layers > Duplicate) - layers will now look like this
User Picture..

Now go to the color materials palette and choose your colors - I'm going to use orange and pink - Example User Picture..

Making sure that your top layer is active, use the Flood Fill tool to fill each section with the colors of your choice. My image now looks like this - yuk!!
User Picture..

Now to perfect the colorizing - on your layers tools make sure that the second layer is active. We are now going to change the blend mode from Normal to Color (Legacy)
User Picture..

[If you want you can also change the opacity settings, but I'm not going to here.]

When you have finished, make sure that you merge all the layers down [Layers > Merge > Merge (all flatten)].

If you want to make the rest of the image grey colorize as shown in main tutorial i.e. ...

Selections > Invert then Adjust > Hue & Saturation > Colourize and set the Hue to 0 and the saturation to 0.

Next Ctrl-D to remove the moving lines.

Hey presto here is my very rough finished graphic.

I duplicate image, lower sat on top layer, then erase what I want colored. That's the only tutorial I could find on it.

I'll definitely be using this way [smile]

your tutorials are great!

Again you are welcome - glad it helped. [lol] yes this is the way I used to colourize once upon a time.
